Bokusenou, I think you have quite a few little words that you can take out to shorten the sentence. You might have been concentrating too much on the Japanese word order when you were translating I think! At the cavern entrance to the cavern, soldiers were posted on night watch in order to prevent those from hostile nations from sneaking in.
不気味な笛の音にうろたえて、岩屋の奥をのぞきこんでいた彼らは、エリンの母を先頭に闘蛇衆がやってくると、ほっとした表情で脇にどいた。 Peering into the cavern depths and flustered by the whistle's unsettling noise, the soldiers were relieved to see the Touda folk arriving with Erin's mother at the head and moved aside. chocopie Ah, thanks! Sometimes I get into "Japanese mode" and translate things too literally. XD 入ってすぐのところには、〈広間〉と呼ばれる広大な空間があり、その奥《おく》は、いくつもの細い洞窟《どうくつ》に分かれていた。 Soon after they entered, they came to a large area known as "The Hall", which split into many narrow caves further along. 洞窟はそれぞれ、岩房と呼ばれる孤立した大きな岩穴に通じている。 Each cave led to a large isolated grotto known as the Rock Chamber. Rock Chamber sounds a bit rubbish but I can't think of anything else for 岩房, although googling to see if it was a real or made up word did find me 獣の奏者用語辞典 which I'm sure will come in useful Next line: 岩穴には〈イケ〉と呼ばれる深い水溜《みずた》まりがあり、闘蛇はそこで飼《か》われていた。

chocopie That's awesome! Great find! Adding it to the first post now. Rock Chamber sounds fine. It seems fantasy-ish enough. 岩穴には〈イケ〉と呼ばれる深い水溜《みずた》まりがあり、闘蛇はそこで飼《か》われていた。 In the cavern there was a deep puddle known as "The Pond", where touda were raised. ふだんは分厚い樫の板の堰で隔てられているが、教練のときや、戦時には、その堰があけられ、戦士を背に乗せた闘蛇が出陣していくようになっていた。 Normally these were shut off by a sluice gate of evergreen oak, but during training or war these sluice gates were opened and the Touda would set off for the battlefield with soldiers on their backs.

無数の〈イケ〉から甲高い笛の音が響き、洞窟に反響しながら吹きあげてくる。 From countless Ponds a shrill whistle rose up, reverberating throughout the cavern.

Woah, I've missed loads here. I'm sorry I stopped posting. I was trying to slow things down because we were burning through the material at an alarming rate, but I realise I should have been a bit more active than I was.
So.. what's going on with this story then? Lets see now...
