I used to make let's play videos, but stopped a little while ago to focus more on my Japanese. I've decided to start again, but for the next year and a half or so I'll only be speaking in Japanese.
I'd like to have some people leaving comments on the videos and correcting me.
I'll try and upload 1 a day.
Here's the first video - 「金属・忍び・暗殺 1 日本語の練習 」初めての日本語の実況動画。見て下さい!

Hey that's awesome! Very good work. Are you sure you want correction though? It's just, when we speak, we make mistakes we wouldn't usually make, because we're just practicing and it's not so easy to think about grammar and so on, and speak at the same time. So we run the risk of correcting mistakes you already know are mistakes. Sometimes, it's nice to just have free practice where you don't stress too much over grammar.
What you could do if you really want feedback, is maybe point out mistakes you're already aware of, and we can just comment on the one's you've missed. Or you could check it yourself and just ask about lines you're not sure of?
Anyway, keep it up. This is a great way to practice your Japanese. My biggest regret is leaving speaking practice out of my study for far too long. So anything that gets you speaking, and ideally, keeps you speaking, is a good thing in my book!

After 15 attempts I finally finished the game.
I watch/listen to the videos and then look up words I didn't know in the video. I add them to an anki deck.

Good work! It must be so hard to concentrate on that kind of game and speaking at the same time! When I play Minecraft, I usually snap into English as soon as I'm approached by mobs ^^. I hope you don't mind me saying, but.. at times, I'm not sure what you're trying to say (it's not an insult, I get the same complaint!). When you keep asking for the names of things, are they the enemies in the game? It sounds like you're saying katakana but they sound like mundane English words, relevent to what's happening, rather than names, so I'm not sure. Or are you asking, 'how do you say this in Japanese?' If so, asking the 'namae' is a little unusual. Having chatted with you before, I'm pretty sure you already know alternative ways of asking 'what's... in Japanese?' (hint: youtu.be/AUAMrEiwka4?t=9m31s) so I won't insult you with a lecture. Just something to be careful of. Your idea of recording everything on anki is great. I do pretty much exactly the same thing (in the case of lang-8 posts, only after I get feedback though, because I don't really trust things I've just looked up out of context). Anyway, keep it up. You're doing awesome and I look forward to the next one!

Hey, I have a question actually Demonhead. What do you use to capture your videos? I'd have to wait until a day when I'm feeling hyper before I'd do it, but I'm toying with the idea of making a little lets play of my own just for Gaiwa. JP and I tried to capture one of our minecraft sessions ages ago, but it came out with no sound, and something like 1 frame per second, so it was really choppy and looked like it was skipping constantly. Is there anything free to download that would let us playback our sessions smoothly and pick up the audio too, like in your videos?
Who knows, maybe if I get it working and get some confidence, I could rope in you and Anna for a silly play about.. maybe build a giant redstone Gaiwa-chan together, or an epic last-man standing PVP (expect frequent English outbursts from me in that case.. mainly swearing..).
Come to think of it.. Anna!!!!!! It's been too long since we hung out together and had cuboid adventures in varying degrees of Japanese... we should fix that!

I use hypercam 2. It's free = linkHere's a video with someones set up - linkIf you want to try different video compressor options, you can download this codec pack = link
Once it's setup it works ok. Just keep doing test recordings with different settings until you find whatever works best. Here's my latest. A short game of me shooting spiders. An unfinished demo probably.

Hey thanks for the links! I started replying last night but decided to wait until I'd slept off the wine. Well, I'm back on my usual back-to-back 10 hour nightshifts now, so probably won't have time to look into this until at least Sunday, but I think I'll try to set it up on my Minecraft PC and have a little play about. It might encourage me to get my lazy behind onto kotobaminers too! ^^ EDIT: OMG I just thought of something. If I install that program on JP's PC too, I could record Japanese TV! Then I can playback my favourite shows and watch them after looking up words I don't know! Maybe I could even share some videos with you guys (unlisted so I don't get hunted down for copyright violation).

これは初めての英語字幕の実況プレイ動画。字が小さいですが、次の動画では大きくします。 This is my first let's play video with English subtitles. The subtitles are small, but in the next one they'll be bigger.
