I tend to prefer longer storytelling forms (novels, series, etc), but some movies I liked are: My Darling is a Foreigner Funny, and fun for Japanese language fans. Ookami Kodomo Ame to YukiHands down the best, most moving film I've seen this year. KokuhakuDark story, I liked the book better though. Most Studio Ghibli films I've heard that the book had some issues with historical accuracy from some people, but don't know much about it otherwise. Is the movie in English or Japanese?

I don't watch many Japanese movies but I do watch Japanese dramas and anime. I just finished Attack on Titan(which was AMAZING) and I'm looking for a good Japanese drama to watch now. Any suggestions?

Other than naruto I've never seen an Japanese movie. I would like to recommend one to my friend who likes shugo chara, klannad, angel beats, SAO, and fruits baskets is there any movie that would be good to recommend to her?

I think those are all anime shows, right? Maybe recommend an anime movie to her. There aren't as many anime movies than regular movies (and I don't watch very many of them), but maybe she hasn't seen a Ghibli movie? Um, there's also Metropolis, which I actually really liked!

Oh yes, I also saw Sadako, which made me sleep with my covers over my head regardless of how bad it was.

Jacob, I have never seen Naruto. I don't know anything about it I will have to check it out. Your short enthusiastic comment along side that super excited looking avatar had me laughing for a while. They just go together. L.G.- I read Shogun and LOVED it, but I got through like 3/4 of Gaijin and it was interrupting my study time. I really don't read anything, but the several science periodicals I receive every month, and things that will help me learn Japanese. No time for fiction until I can speak Japanese like you. ; )

wes1378 aw, shucks. Then I'll pick up Shogun and Gaijin so that you can catch up! Haha! You should use your Japanese in the Bilingual or Japanese forums sometime! naitorii I've heard of both Battle Royale and Sadoko, but I never watched either one! I get scared easily, and I absolutely can't watch horror movies without being traumatized for months at a time! Was Battle Royale as good as everyone says?

Really...I might check it out then. It's not too Twilight-ish (in other words, girl loves vampire, vampire loves girl, but spends the whole time trying not to kill her-type story), right? Off memory, no. There was maybe one reference to the whole not trying to kill her thing, but I don't remember it being a huge thing like it was in Twilight. I'll have to reread it to make sure. Ok, then I think I'll check it out.^^ Other than naruto I've never seen an Japanese movie. I would like to recommend one to my friend who likes shugo chara, klannad, angel beats, SAO, and fruits baskets is there any movie that would be good to recommend to her? Off the top of my head here are some ideas: Millennium ActressSad, but uplifting in a way similar to Fruits Basket and Clannad. ColorfulSame reason as above, but with a happy ending. Wolf ChildrenProbably the least similar of these, but the parenting theme reminds me of Clannad After Story. You can also look up a series on this site and scroll down for recommendations. naitorii I've heard of both Battle Royale and Sadoko, but I never watched either one! If you get scared watching horror movies, stay far, far away from Battle Royale.

Battle royale is extremely violent and the ending is not... shiny. It's has some pretty good twists and y'know, senseless death. Have you read or seen hunger games? Well, slap a japanese edition on that and there it is.
