They use teamspeak linkIt's free, when you've downloaded it click connections from the menu, click connect and paste in their server. voice.kotobaminers.org I don't know if you need to be on minecraft aswell to hear them, they went quiet earlier when I closed it, then I heard them when I opened it.. So maybe. As for the typing, I can get it to work on singleplayer when I'm using version 1.6.2, but can't connect to the server with that version. On 1.6.4 and 1.7.2, it comes up as uncompatible..but they're able to type in Japanese on it. Here's the page with the tutorials - link

Oh wow! Thanks for explaining. I was wondering what teamspeak was ^^
Right, I'll install that tomorrow too then. I usually have my laptop next to me on skype and use my PC to play minecraft (it means if I disconnect from one, I can still communicate via the other, but it is a bit cumbersome). I wondered why they kept getting verbal alerts when someone connected or joined the server!
I really, really hope I manage to find someone on there tomorrow night. It will be pretty late though, like 8pm or later, by the time I get on, so I'm not holding out that much hope. I've invited LittleGaijin to join me on the private server, but I don't know if she will. If I don't get to play minecraft in Japanese tomorrow, I think I'm going to cry and stamp my feet ^^
I haven't played for a while actually, so I think I've missed an update. I'd better do that tomorrow then too. I've had no end of trouble from trying to connect to people who are still using an older a version of the game.

Ahem.. erm.. it's me again So, I'm heading in, probably on Thursday but maybe even tomorrow night. Everyone I've met so far seems really nice. Cheapsh0t is trying to persuade me to go to the Japanese only server but I'd much rather play with the beginners and be alowed to use English, until I find my confidence. Is that the server you've been using? I hope it doesn't crash for me. When LittleGaijin joined me on my own server, we didn't experience much glitching (besides this weird thing where you had to mine a block twice before it would vanish), so I'm hopeful. Before I go dashing in though, I AM cool to just dip into the server any time of day or night, right? Cheapsh0t did imply that, but I just want to check. I'm very, very shy about all of this.

You can go in the server whenever you like. They use this one - kotobaminers.org
The rpg server they only turn on once a week or so, when they're doing an event or something. I don't know about any other servers but those two.

Hey, thanks. That clears up everything! The way Cheapsh0t was talking, it seemed that the no-English server is also 24/7, but he said it has less traffic, so I could join in with the other server when I want too. I just wasn't sure if the other server was 24/7. I think I was getting confused between that and the RPG server!
I'm so sorry for being such an insufferable squib., I really appreciate all the help and information you've given me!
As I suspected, it doesn't look like I'll be on kotoba miners tonight, but I'll get on tomorrow whatever it takes! ^^

I found a great game for Japanese learners! Since a lot of people here (including myself) are Ghibli fans they should like it too. Ni no Kuni is a RPG developed by Studio Ghibli for the DS and PS3, so it was animated by Ghibli, and even has the same music composer who composed for all the Miyazaki films. Playing it seriously feels like stepping into a Ghibli movie. The nice part for Japanese learners is that it has full furigana over all the kanji, and a lot of the dialogue is voiced.

Seconding Ni no Kuni. I haven't played it, but a friend of mine swears by it.
