I don't watch many Japanese movies but I do watch Japanese dramas and anime. I just finished Attack on Titan(which was AMAZING) and I'm looking for a good Japanese drama to watch now. Any suggestions? Haha, it's the opposite for me! (frown) I don't have enough time to sit down and watch new dramas or anime, so I've been trying to watch more movies instead! (Mainly because after an hour or so, it's done! No part two, no additional 20 hour marathons!) But I used to watch A LOT of dramas! I can recommend a few for you! Here are my favorites!
* Last Cinderella Staring Miura Haruma! An older woman― who has a beard―falls for a SEXY younger guy. Oh, I kid you not about the beard. * Hotaru no Hikari A silly business woman falls for her older boss. They end up living together and they are both insanely funny! * Zettai Kareshi A lonely woman is picked to be the first one to test a robot boyfriend. * Bimbo Danshi Staring Oguri Shun! A short comedy about a broke college student, always running from the cops. * Hana Kimi Staring Oguri Shun! A romantic comedy about a girl in an all boys school, who is in love with a polevaulter. * Ikemen Desu Ne Staring singers from Kis-My-Ft2!This drama is becoming EXTREMELY popular in Japan. A nun is forced to pose as a boy and sing in a boy band. And then I'm obligated to mention Hana Yori Dango, which is probably the most popular Japanese drama, and was the first drama I ever watched! If you haven't seen it yet, go watch it first!

Well, if we're going to talk about dramas (summaries aren't mine, I was lazy and took them from drama-wiki): - SPEC Starring Toda Erika, Kase Ryo
Two detectives track down offenders with special abilities(SPEC) who managed to get away with their crimes.
- Kimi wa Petto Starring Matsumoto Jun, Koyuki
Sumire finds an unconscious young man lying in a box out the front of her home and takes him in. She dubs him Momo and decides to "keep him as a pet."
- LIAR GAME Starring Toda Erika, Matsuda Shota
Kanzaki Nao is an honest college student who receives a hundred million yen one day, along with a card saying she has been chosen to take part in the "Liar Game". She recruits Akiyama to help her get out of it.
- Ohitorisama Starring Mizuki Alisa, Koike Teppei
Akiyama Satomi is a history teacher at the prestigious all-girls high school she once attended. She has earned the nickname "ohitorisama" (meaning "one person") for her perfectionism and capability to handle any work by herself. As well as for the lack of romance in her life. A younger teacher arrives as a temporary instructor, and he's not Satomi's type at all.
- Switch Girl!! Starring Nishiuchi Mariya
The story revolves around a high school student named Nika who appears to be a stylish and fashionable girl at school, but that's really a fake persona that she uses when she's in public. At home, she “switches off” the facade and her returns to her true slovenly nature.
- Yamada-kun to 7-nin no Majo Starring Yamamoto Yusuke, Nishiuchi Mariya
Shiraishi Urara is the top student in her school. One day, due to an accidental kiss, Urara finds herself in the body of the school delinquent, Yamada Ryu! In trying to switch back to their own bodies, Urara and Ryo discover that kissing causes them to switch bodies, which leads to their discovery that there are 7 witches in their school. They soon try to uncover the identities of the 7 witches...
- Jotei Starring Kato Rosa, Matsuda Shota
Kato Rosa stars as Tachibana Ayaka, a young woman whose life has been ruined after she lost her boyfriend then her mother became gravely ill. Looking for revenge, she starts out as a hostess with the goal of rising to become the "empress" of the Osaka nightlife scene. Matsuda Shota plays a member of the underworld who becomes Ayaka's ally.
- Code Blue Starring Yamashita Tomohisa, Aragaki Yui, Toda Erika, Asari Youke, Higa Manami
The "Doctor Helicopter" system was legalized in Japan in June 2007. A medical team is dispatched to the patients on a helicopter to provide medical care in the field as soon as possible. One day, four young physicians are assigned to this latest medical system. The doctors experience traumatic medical situations, deal with personal ambitions, witness the fragility of life, and they grow personally and professionally.
- Answer ~ Keishichou Kenshou Sousakan Starring Mizuki Alisa
The Tokyo Metropolitan Police's First Investigative Division set up the Evidence Verification Section and gave it the important task of validating cases that have been closed within a limited time in order to prevent wrongful convictions from happening as a result of out of control investigators at crime scenes. But its actual job is to correct typographical errors and omissions and stamp investigation reports with the words 'verification completed', and then send it over to public prosecutors. Deputy Inspector Shinkai Akira, a career elite who has been sidelined as a result of some incident, is assigned to be the new leader of the Evidence Verification Section. A sharp-minded female who gives the impression of an eccentric person, Akira breaks away from the bureaucratic work and genuinely starts to validate evidence, demonstrating her ability to take action and sense of justice in order to rally her disillusioned subordinates. Discovering new facts from small doubts in the reports, she overturns cases that should have been solved and finds the true criminals.
- Akumu-chan Starring Kitagawa Keiko, Gackt, Yuka, Kimura Manatsu
What would you do if all of your dreams had a way of coming true...including nightmares? Beautiful and young, Ayami has a solid reputation as a dedicated and reliable elementary teacher, but her true character is solely clandestine. Ayami does not believe in love and trust, and her values make her oblivious to other people’s matters. Almost devious, she is always scheming so she never has to deal with responsibility and troubles that spur around her. One day, a new student Yuiko enrolls in her home-room class. It does not take long for Ayami to find out that Yuiko has an ability to predict the future through the dreams she sees in her sleep; dreams which are symbolic and require proper interpretation to understand the upcoming occurrences. But when Yuiko begins to have nightmares of people around them, Ayami, though unwillingly, must team up with Yuiko to try to change the tragic fate of those around them... But can they properly assess what Yuiko’s nightmares truly mean and change what may already be destined?
- Yankee-kun to Megane-chan Starring Narimiya Hiroki, Naka Riisa
Shinagawa Daichi used to be a good student who has now become a delinquent, while class president Adachi Hana was a delinquent who is now trying to move on. Her secret is discovered by Shinagawa, but she involves herself trying to correct his ways.
- BOSS Starring Amani Yuki, Takenouchi Yutaka, Tamayama Tetsuji, Toda Erika, Mizobata Junpei
This series revolves around a group of peculiar detectives in a new division created to fight against an increase in atrocious crimes. Osawa Eriko is a beautiful career woman who has just returned from training in the U.S. and is appointed as the "boss" of this division. But despite her intelligence and capabilities, she can never understand a man's heart, so she remains unable to find a husband. In fact, her assignment in the U.S. was really a demotion after she ruined her career track over a man. So why was she chosen as the boss of the new division? Even though the detectives are talented, they all have some kind of issue or flaw, and they are considered to be the "problem children" of the police force. In the end, the division's true purpose is just to isolate these problematic detectives.

Hmm, dramas. I never really found one I liked, but I'm thinking of giving them another try one of these days. The ones I watched part of all had pretty bad acting though, enough for me to not be able to get into the whole suspension of disbelief state which fiction requires, and were all wacky rom-coms...(^_^ Most of the stories I watch/read fall into two categories: The thought-provoking "makes you think" type, or the moving/inspiring type which when someone asks you what it's about you say "It's about life." Sometimes I also like things which are really dark too, though I'm not in the right mood for them currently, dark stories are also fine. I'm the most picky about romances, though I don't mind romance as a side plot, it's best not to reccomend romances to me unless they also fit one of the categories above really well. Anyway, any recommendations for dramas I might like? Especially with good acting?

I haven't watched it, so I can't say anything about the acting, but I heard LIFE was really good. Umm, Ryusei no Kizuna's good too. For me, as long as the acting/effects aren't like Vampire Host I'm okay with whatever lol

Sweet! Thanks guys! I've already watched Hana Yori Dango, Hana Kimi and Kimi wa Petto. I am a HUGE fan of Oguri Shun and also a fan of Matsumoto Jun. When I read LittleGaijin's description for Last Cinderella I seriously burst out laughing! XD Have you guys watched Rich Man, Poor Women(Oguri Shun! ^.^) and Yamato Nedeshiko Shichi Henge? Those are two of my favorites.

lol, Vampire Host. What will they think up next... It's actually based off the manga Blood Hound by Yuki Kaori which is much better than the drama (much shorter too, actually). Have you guys watched Rich Man, Poor Women(Oguri Shun! ^.^) and Yamato Nedeshiko Shichi Henge? Those are two of my favorites. I haven't watched Rich Man, Poor Woman yet, but it's on my list. I've seen Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge multiple times though, mainly because it's easy to tune out while I do homework lol I preferred the manga.

Ok, so I'm watching Zettai Kareshi and my first reaction was, "HIRO MIZUSHIMA! HANA KIMI! HE'S SO HANDSOME!" I have a feeling this is going to be an awesome show.

Really...I might check it out then. It's not too Twilight-ish (in other words, girl loves vampire, vampire loves girl, but spends the whole time trying not to kill her-type story), right?

There was maybe one reference to the whole not trying to kill her thing, but I don't remember it being a huge thing like it was in Twilight. I'll have to reread it to make sure.

XD Have you guys watched Rich Man, Poor Women(Oguri Shun! ^.^) OH YES MA'AM. I've seen the first two episodes of Rich Man, Poor Woman! When I started watching it though, I was really busy so I couldn't continue watching! If you think it's really good, I might try to start watching it again though! Maybe after I finish the Last Cinderella and Korean drama She is Wow (which is my number one favorite drama of all time)! I had a MAD crush on Oguri Shun when I was in highschool... he's just so perfect! I think I stopped obsessing over him when he became a director and released his first movie. All my Japanese friends made fun of me for liking him because the movie he made was HORRIBLE. I still love him though! But I never got into Matsu Jun... I'm not a fan of his acting, his looks, or how all his characters are too similar to each other. Sorry! If it's any consolation, I literally get beat up by Japanese people when they find out that I don't like Matsu Jun. Oh! And I'm really glad that you like Zettai Kareshi so far! It's such a good one!

I've watched a bunch of Korean dramas and then I got into Japanese dramas when I started learning Japanese. I've only been learning Japanese since the beginning of the summer so I'm sorta a newbie. ^.^ The Korean drama I'm currently watching is Heirs. Lee Min Ho is my favorite Korean actor so I've been waiting for this drama for a while and am so happy its finally here. Gu Family Book is one of my favorite Korean dramas. If you haven't watched than I highly recommend it.

She is Wow isn't very popular, but it's very good! The lead actor is from my favorite K-Pop group B1A4 (Jinyoung), so that's why I started watching it! It's a comedy, but it's extremely bizarre! Every episode is shocking, the writers were absolutely brilliant! (My other favorite Korean dramas are Can You Hear my Heart? and Lie to Me. )Oh but, I never heard of Gu Family Book before! I might watch it! Thanks for the recommendation!

Gotta love those adorable eyes!

Another B1A4 fan! Gongchan does have really pretty, smiley eyes! My best friend loves Gongchan and (especially) Baro, but my biases are Jinyoung and CNU! We're saving up to go to Korea together, and go to a B1A4 concert! She wants to get VIP tickets and go backstage, but I keep telling her that I'll pass out before I even shake someone's hand...
