So Bokusenou and I discovered a shared interest tonight. We both like rakugo! I was trying to remember where I first discovered rakugo and I'm not sure exactly, but I know whatever it was led me to discover the video below and from there I was hooked!
I couldn't find the video during our skype call (I thought she was a blonde lady though, so no wonder! ^^). Rather than pm the link to Bokusenou, I thought I'd share it with everyone here at Gaiwa. I'll let Diane explain what Rakugo is for those who don't know..
Does anyone else have an interest in rakugo? Also.. extra kudos for anyone who picks up on the pun in the name of the performer in the video. ^^

Thanks for the links Demonhead! Bokusenou told me about this anime too. I had no idea such an anime existed so I'm very excited to check it out. Unfortunately I had to dash off to work last night and Monday evenings are swimming night, so I haven't had a chance to check it out yet. I'll definitely come back and let you all know what I thought of it once I've seen a few episodes!

I'm about 5 episodes in now and so far I'm really enjoying it! I love that they actually perform the rakugo stories too. Thanks for recommending the series Bokusenou and Demonhead! I might actually make it to the end of the series for a change! Oh and Bokusenou, I re-watched the episode of that kokugo show we were talking about on Sunday. The one with the rakugo artist in. His actions are so convincing and i agree about the crisps/chips. You can almost see the crumbs he spills on himsef. It's such an impressive skill. My focus on studying Japanese has meant that I haven't read fiction in quite a few years. I think my imagination has suffered as a result. Rakugo is helping me to relearn how to see the images in my mind and get lost in the narrative. My interest in rakugo is quickly becoming a passion it would seem!

That rakugo video is great! Anyone spot the nod to her hometown in the intro music? I didn't at first, but then she mentioned it in the video below: m.youtube.com/watch?v=vHuKRvBlcVEAlso, yeah, I loved the rakugo artist segment in that show! You can tell he really watches how people act. In case anyone else is wondering what we're talking about, here's the link: www.nhk.or.jp/kokokoza/tv/kokuhyou/archive/chapter005.htmlThe part with the rakugo artist is called "ことばのプロに聞く~林家たい平さん". It's all in Japanese, but there's a lot of miming of certain actions in this, so it might be fun to watch even if you don't understand everything. Also,I love the rakugo scenes in that anime! Some of the other scenes can get a bit depressing, but the rakugo scenes were awesome, and I'm really looking forward to watching the second season when it airs.
