IntroductionSome of us in the Line group have started sharing articles and activities from textbooks aimed at Japanese school children, or 'kokugo' as Japanese as a school subject is known in Japan. I recently discovered that these textbooks are harder to get hold of and therefore even more valuable than I previously thought. So while I'm disappointed at being unable to get extra copies for gaiwa give-a-ways, I feel the least I can do is share some of the contents of these books with my fellow learners. They've been my main textbooks for almost a year now, and I'm looking forward to being able to share with you the joy they have brought to me. This thread will be a general archive of the activities we share, and also somewhere to discuss what we want to study in general. Lesson Archive

Well then, what shall we do next? The options are..
An easier story (Toad's letter) A harder story (Gon the Fox) A harder and horrifically heart breaking story (Suho's White horse) A scientific article (How Dolphins Sleep, or How Ants Stay in Formation) Some short poems
Or
Some pages from a kokugo workbook ('fill in the blank' style questions) Kanji practice with the Pokemon kanji drill books (these aren't provided by the Japanese government though so may cause copyright issues.
Let me know what interests you and I'll get more threads up.

Personally it's hard to decide, but I might be most interested in a scientific article.

Okay! Well the dolphin and ant articles are part of the same section. They're introducing the concept of essay writing. The dolphin one is shorter, and is visually broken up into an intro, body and conclusion to illustrate the structure of an essay, so I'll post that one!

I'm currently borrowing some kokugo books from a Japanese family that moved to my area (I'm a conversation party with the father, who is doing research at my university). I have a few books for elementary school as well as one for middle school.
When I get home later I'll try to take pictures of them, I'd like to put up some of the material for us to read together if others are interested!
