Bokusenou has got me kanji crazy with her latest article so I thought it would be fun to teach one another new compounds, and practice the ones we know, with a fun little game. The aim of the game is to write a compound with its reading and meaning, that contains one character from the previous kanji. For example, if I write 漢字 (kanji) the next person might write 文字 (moji, letter/character) and the next person might write 文明 (bunmei, civilization) and so on. Tip for beginners: if you're just starting out, you can copy the compounds into jisho.org and then click 'kanji'. From there, select 'words containing' and you can choose a word from there! There's no need to limit your compounds to 2 characters either. So, I guess I'll start. First compound is; 最初 (saisho, first)

Hey thanks for joining in! I even turned on japanese input on my phone to reply, and it takes a lot to make me do that, lol!
最愛 is a new word for me! I have a feeling this thread will be very useful.
Next: 愛人 (aibito, lover, girlfriend/boyfriend/partner)

Oh yeah, I was! Oopse, that's not a nice word, or not in the contexts I've heard it in anyway ^^ I'd have picked something else if I'd realised! I've said this a hundred times, but I should really get into the habit of double checking my Japanese! I wonder why my phone inputted the right word though, unless I typed it correctly in kana.. I'll change the romaji and English.
大切 (taisetsu、 important)

Checking this thread feels like finding a particularly good vein in minecraft, with diamonds, redstone and iron all around me... I just have to build over the lava.. take out my pickaxe.. and... plop, into anki they go..
因果 inga
Cause and effect (or is that affect? I always mix these two up ^^)
.. excuse the weird analogy. Yet again (4th time in 6 months) I find myself without a fellow nightshift worker, meaning I'm doing a fair bit overtime while they look for a replacement. I always go a little weird in the head when I do too many shifts.

勇敢 ゆうかん bravery
I think the only time you can use 'effect' as a verb is in 'to effect a change'.
