LittleGaijin shush lady we know you're busy you don't have to apologize!!! And I know life is hard sometimes, I'm really trying not to think about moving until it's actually happening. I've made two best friends in the past few years that have redefined friendship for me and I love them to death, closer with them then I've ever been with anybody and even thinking about leaving them makes me tear up fast! I'm truly lucky to be having my husband with me, I'd just lose it over there alone, so props to anyone who's able to do it by themselves xO

Also LittleGaijin I now know why there's like no TUJ information out there on youtube, haha I made those TUJ FAQ videos and got scolded by the admissions rep by email. He sent me a {very polite} email saying that he wouldn't want me to be the cause of any misinformation and would appreciate it if I directed any further questions to their admissions email address. I was like uhh, sure, but from personal experience I myself didn't want to email you guys until I knew I would be able to actually have a chance at it happening.... It's like walking into a store you know you can't afford and the sales associates are trying to get you to try everything on @.@ So I guess I won't be making anymore TUJ videos...D<

PrincessThat's awful of them! I've heard of some Japanese language schools doing that, but I wouldn't expect a college to do the same. I guess they don't want any (unofficial) publicity?

Bokusenou but there's so much bad publicity out there, I was trying to provide positive stuff! I'm not really sure why it was a big deal and surely it couldn't have been about misinformation because it's not like they turn anybody away from the admissions process just because they have bad grades. Oh well xO

Awww, Princess thank you so much for understanding. I've been going through a lot lately (I'm sure you saw a few things about that on Facebook haha) but I'm getting better and life is not perfect, but it is good. And, ARE YOU SERIOUS? Oh god, that's ridiculous! How did they know it was you? Did they recognize you from your visa pictures? That's ridiculous, I never heard of something like that happening. One of my friends actually makes quite a lot of videos about TUJ with some ugly truth and a wee bit of negative experiences, and I don't think they've ever been contacted about it... yet. The one video I have up hasn't provoked the admissions rep either... Were you forced to take it down?

Princess I also know what you mean about leaving super close friends behind. My best friend Cristy and I really got insanely close over the last few years, and she also completely redefined friendship for me. We were both heartbroken when I left, but we're still staying close and doing all we can to keep up daily communication and skype on the weekends. Timezones are hell, but we make it work. Before I left, we started a private Facebook group for just the two of us, and we use it to keep all our conversations/topics separate for when we can't skype. She says she couldn't live without it. She'll post links and videos or problems on there every other day, and we can focus on staying on topic better this way. Also, make sure your friends and family get Line before you leave! Line is an absolute must over here, and you'll be using Line more than any other app on your phone. I have 70 friends on Line, and maybe about 6 people on my Phonebook/Contacts app. In fact, I'm moving into an apartment with one of my best friends next month, and I don't think I even have her phone number on my phone hahaha! Line is a must!!

LittleGaijin They didn't ask for me to take it down, just refer any further questions to their email. My Youtube name is now just Kari Senpai! but it says Kari and it's up there when you search for TUJ sooo they probably recognized me and my name xO That's really cool! I like that Facebook group idea.....is Line much different than Skype?

LittleGaijin That's really cool! I like that Facebook group idea.....is Line much different than Skype? Hahaha yeah, it's pretty neat. Our conversations are always all over the place, and sometimes the things we really want to talk about get neglected, so it's nice to separate all our different topics into different posts and just talk through the comments section. Probably about 20-30 comments on every post. Line is like... iMessenger, Skype, and Facebook... all rolled into one very nifty little Japanese app. When you get here, people will start asking for your "Line ID" as soon as new students' orientation. No one really trades phone numbers anymore. I call people in and outside of Japan through Line. It's amazing for texting too. No extra fees to text someone overseas or in Japan through Line over cellular. Also, if you overuse your data on your phone, the slower cellular doesn't affect Line at all. So, sometimes, my data is so slow that I can't use my map apps or even do a quick search on Google if I get lost, but I can text a friend or call someone on Line and ask for help. No one really uses the facebook-esque timeline feature though... But yeah, Line is super essential over here, it'll be the most important thing on your phone other than your camera haha. Oh, and if you get it, let me know! I'll give you my ID. I respond really quick on Line.

LittleGaijin awww that's so cute! Cool omg~ I had my friend download Skype recently but I guess I'll have her delete that and add Line ;D so if people rely on that so heavily, does that mean a cheaper phone bill? Or still higher because you need to buy so much data? On a side note I booked my flight to Japan....AHH I arrive the 12th at 3:35 pm so I just got a hotel room in Shinjuku cuz I booked Sakura House and I need to go to their office to pick up keys...I didn't wanna risk trying to get there before office closing at 7:30 xP I AM SO NERVOUS, I HAD DREAMS ABOUT GETTING LOST

Princess honestly, it depends. It might be good to have your friends have both. I use both Skype and Line for calls and video chats. My boyfriend lives in Hawaii, and we text through Line and we use both Line AND Skype for calls. He complains about using Line for calls on his computer because he uses an external mic and only Skype gives you the choice of using external mics/speakers. Line is more intended to be used on the phone, especially when it comes to calls and video chat. So he prefers to use Skype when he's at his computer, but when he's on his phone he'll call me on Line. Especially when I'm at school. We alternate a lot. And I always log off Skype whenever I'm done with a call, so he has to message me first if he wants to Skype. I've never used Skype to write messages to people before. My best friend back home uses Line to text me, and she usually prefers Skype to call me. My parents are almost completely Line-exclusive now. They don't using more than one thing. Line uses less data than Skype. The phone plans over here (I have Softbank) don't make you pay extra if you overuse your data... but it means that anything requiring internet will be ridiculously slow for until that month is up. But this doesn't include Line, and several other apps. Line will work 100%, even when your data is reduced for the rest of the month. Hope that clears up some confusion! Took me a while to understand this when I first got here. Ahhh excitement! Don't worry about getting lost... I had really bad dreams of hypothetical situations before I came here too... Situations like not being able to communicate with doctors in the hospitals, or not being able to do simple things and getting lost. Seriously, Japan is great and you have nothing to worry about. Trust me. And if you get lost, feel free to contact me and I can help you out! (^_^)

LittleGaijin ohh that all makes sense! Some of my already distanced friends and me use Skype now (on the computer) so thats nice and wooo go Japan for not charging a million dollars for overusing data haha. I know, part of it is like if I think about it, time will go by slowly but if I just continue day to day activities it'll be here in a flash and ahh I'm excited and nervous! What's really making it hard is a really close friend, she's pretty upset I'm leaving. Me, her and another friend have all gotten really close and thought about doing big artistic projects together and stuff, and she's so upset about me leaving it makes it hard to even bring it up.

Princess that's good! Aww, I understand that. Me and my best friend had so many art projects and DIYs that we planned to do together before I left, and we never got around to doing a lot of them. But, you know, doing some crafts and small projects together during the days before I left was a really nice memory and helped us get closer! I really recommend it. And I took everything we made together with me to Japan, and she still has hers. She's planning on sending me a package of supplies so that we can skype and do things together like we used to! There's always things you can do together, even when apart. If you ever sit down and work on something artistic together, you guys can talk about how you can do things like this when apart. Just stay optimistic and don't let the distance get you down! Things will get better, trust me.
