I've started learning how to write in running script/semi-cursive (行書体) and omg it is so cool! It's so much faster than writing regular block characters and it just flows from the pen so easily. It's actually very easy because it's largely made up of 2's, 3's and 12's! Like 口 is written like 12 (often with the bottom of the 1 joining the top of the 2. two horizontal lines are drawn as a 2 (or a z), (like Demonhead discovered in the first post in this thread), so if you're writing 日 for example, you write the first two strokes as normal, and then write a 2 below that. The 'legs' of 'bird' or 'horse' (technically flames) can be drawn as a single sloping line, or one dash for the first 'leg' followed by a slightly wavy line for the other 3. I'm just going to learn to write the most common radicals in this style and then write my characters with those, so it shouldn't actually take THAT long. I'm using a manual to learn how to write in this style because I just really like the feel of a real book (I've never quite taken to digital books and don't enjoy learning from websites as much as I do a real book), but if you want to learn this style without forking out for a book, or if you want the benefit of being able to read with rikaichan/kun then I found a really good website with plenty of examples, including alternative styles. diagotorena

Thanks for sharing the picture. I've just started too so I don't really want to share a pic, but at the same time, I love sharing pictures of my notebooks so I'm kinda conflicted!
I figured that so long as you know how to write the radicals, you should be able to write any kanji, but even that takes time because there are so many radicals!
