I've had my LINE account for a while now (on my iPod), but early next year I am changing my phone number and getting an iPhone. I really don't want to get a new LINE account, but all my friends said that they have to delete their accounts whenever they get a new phone! They said that they have to re-add everyone, and restart their games. I have A LOT of friends, and a lot of saved conversations on my account, and I also play LINE PLAY―and I already wasted a lot of money on my account...
Is there a way to remove my phone number, or at least change it whenever I get a new phone/number? I'll be moving to Japan early next year, and I'm planning on getting an iPhone over there... but if I eventually decide to come back to America, I don't want to delete my account and loose everything if I get a new phone here again. I tried to research this, but no one has been asking about it online.
I can't delete my account, and I'm really worried about loosing everything on it.

I haven't changed my number since I got LINE, but I did delete the app at one point and when I started using it again I'd lost my conversation history but not my contacts. I don't know how it goes using a completely new number though, I think my friend Yumi had to start from scratch and add everyone to her new account all over again.
Edit: Also LINE can only be on one iDevice/mobile but can be on however many computers you want. You have to start from scratch on a new mobile.

Aghhhhh more LINE horror stories! Jade, well according to their website (fingers crossed that they are serious), we can change our numbers/phones so long as our accounts are connected to an email AND Facebook account. I haven't connected to Facebook yet, but I'm planning on doing it a week before switching! It said that transferring conversations is trickier, and that you have to save all of your past conversations on your email or something... yeah um no. LOL! But at least we can have the option to change our phone/number now! Thank you LINE! Now if only they would give me the Snoopy stickers for free. (>_<)

Ah, that's good then. I've already done both, so when I eventually get a new phone I'll be able to switch with no issues~~♥ One thing with connecting LINE to your Facebook is that it'll add anyone else in your Facebook friends list that have LINE to your LINE contacts so you may end up with a few more people in your contacts list.

Woah woah woah. Woah. Is there an option to opt out of that? Like a "it seems that a couple of your friends have LINE! Do you want to add them? Yes, or NO?" After connecting Facebook and LINE, does it automatically add friends that get a LINE account? Ugh! I have a lot of Mukogawa students (that aren't mine) on my Facebook friends list, and I know that they'll all have an account. And my own students set their nicknames to wacky things like "Hazelnuts" and "Frufru," with icons like Johnny Depp or some blonde lady in a bikini. I can't tell them apart as it is! And I wish that LINE had an option to remove friends without blocking them... so that you can still get an friend request from them again someday. Ugh this is all around UGH.

I don't remember there being a way to opt-out, no. There may be?

Maybe this reply is to late, but all you have to do is link your email address. You don't need Facebook. Just go to Settings, Account and register your email.

Thank you so much for letting me know! Have you transferred cellphones with LINE before? Still a little nervous, haven't done it yet! No Facebook needed, huh? I linked my email, and I'm really insanely glad that I don't have to link to Facebook!

LittleGaijinI've done it twice with no problems. When you load LINE for the first time on your new phone you'll get the option to login with your email address and then it grabs all your previous info. I can't guarantee it works with the games as I don't use them but as it's all linked to your LINE account I can't see why it shouldn't keep your game progress too.

chocopie Thank you so much for telling me all this! I didn't know anyone else who had changed phones, and didn't have to get a new LINE account! It's good to know that it's definitely possible! I know a lot of my Japanese friends would get new phones all the time, and I would suddenly have a friend on my friends list with a blank picture and then a friends request the next day... I probably have 4 "Momoko"s on my friends list now, all the same person. Hopefully saving LINE PLAY on cloud should take care of that, just in case? I wasted some money on that game last year, impulsive shame, but if I lose it―oh well! Losing Puzzle and Dragons will kill me though...

LittleGaijinIt might be a little late, but I have been reading the LINE FAQ and it seems that: 1) If you can change devices (without changing phone numbers) you can keep all your data (except chat history) 2) If you change phone numbers (whether change device or not) you will LOSE all your data, keeping only stickers line.naver.jp/help/categoryId/10237 - See 'Can I change my registered phone number?' Yes, 2) seems dumb and I'm really worried about how to retain my contacts when I move country (hence change numbers) later this year

According to the Japanese FAQ, if you've registered by either email or facebook you will keep your friends list, profile settings, stamps and coins. However you can't carry over your coin balance if you switch to a phone with a different OS.

Hmm, I still see the same thing on the Japanese FAQ. As I understand from another FAQ question, changing phone numbers (sim card) will make you go through the verification process again. Once you have verified (as shown below), your friend list will be deleted
