You guys make me so jealous typing in Japanese like that. XD I'm nowhere close to the level you guys are at. I really have to crack down on my Japanese if I'm going to do my exchange program for grade 12! そんなこと言わないでよ!いつかに、 MrsWorldWideさんも日本語を使えれますよ!頑張って下さい! Aw, you don't have to say that! Someday, you'll be able to use Japanese too! Just keep studying, do your best!

MrsWorldWide don't forget that you can always practice your Japanese here! This forum is full of nice, friendly, extremely helpful people! I know that it can be intimidating to use Japanese for the first time in a place with more advanced speakers, but we really love speaking with beginners and helping them get more comfortable using their Japanese! Trust me... I once tried to jump in on a conversation with extremely advanced Japanese speakers back when I was a beginner. Some of them wrote nasty things to/about me in Japanese that my friend translated for me later. Some of them sent me private messages telling me to leave. But! We're not like that! Everyone here is so loving and kind! Everyone here can help you get ready for your exchange!

Aw. Thanks! I really appreciate it. I'm glad I discovered all of you guys. Abby has helped me tremendously with my studies by recommending textbooks that I could buy. Right now I'm using a mixture of Rosetta Stone(which is what I first starting using to learn Japanese) and the Japanese From Zero 1 textbook. I also have the Japanese Demystified book but I haven't cracked that one open yet.

And I wish I knew what the japanese only forum says Is there something in particular that I can translate for you? MrsWorldWide and I'm really glad that you joined Gaiwa! We're all about making friends here, and improving our Japanese together! If you're still looking for new textbooks, I really recommend the Genki Workbooks! And especially Yookoso! An Invitation To Contemporary Japanese which is the main book I used back when I was studying! I really love the Yookoso series, but make sure you've learned all your kana before buying the books!

Hello! Welcome to the Bilingual Self Introduction thread, where you introduce yourself, and then we all sit around a campfire and talk about people who speak Japanese better than us!
LOL. In all seriousness though, the more you use your Japanese―the more you will have confidence in yourself. We should all be proud of ourselves for knowing as little as we do, but keep moving forward and learn something new every day! It's good to have a role model, and to wish that you will be as good as them someday - but you have to remember that you will be just as good as them so long as you keep studying and working hard. Just because they speak Japanese better than you do now, doesn't necessarily mean that they are any better than you. It just means that they've been studying longer.
Think about it this way... you're playing a Pokemon game, and you come face to face with a gym leader who has Pokemon 10 levels above yours. What do you do? You turn around, go out into the world and battle other trainers and capture more wild Pokemon. It takes a few minutes, maybe an hour, but when you come face to face with that gym leader again ― you're even better than he/she is! But not once do you sit back and submit to that gym leader! The only thing on your mind is "I need to level up if I want to move on." So the next time you come across someone who speaks Japanese better than you, don't ever think that that someone is better than you. Sure, they might be a little more advanced than you, but all you need to do is "level up if you want to move on." It'll take some time, but I know you guys can do it! Just treat learning Japanese like a Pokemon game!

Speaking, no, writing, maybe. I need to really work on my speaking... I need to work on everything (´△` )↓ I stop and start too much when I speak, and with writing I just stick with the stuff I know well all the time instead of trying to implement new stuff. Your writing is amazing though, any tips? lol
